This was recommended by someone who was looking around for o/w dive courses in Abu Dhabi: "Al Jazeera Diving located in Al Mina (Zayed Port area) next to the fish market, across from the taxi company. tel: 971 2 6731717 (as of October 2008) (thanks Mohammad)Not to be confused with Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club (or Al-Jazeera) which has a pool where I conduct pool training in Abu Dhabi. Al Jazira have a website http://jc.ae/web2/index.php?goto=contact with contact information giving Tel : +971 2 4454455, and when I called on a Friday in April 2009 to ask about pool opening times someone answered, and gave me a mobile number to call 050-264-9707, and this person answered and gave me the information I needed in English. It's a nice pool but can get crowded and they have recently gone up on entry price to 75 dirhams per diver (I think swimmers are less) and 50 dirhams for the instructor. Al Jazira appears in Wikipedia <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Jazira_Club, geo links at this location: http://tinyurl.com/4bnsqc>.
At the 19th (or Immigration or Saada) St. bridge over Airport Road head back into town on Airport Road but take the first possible right off the feeder before entering Airport Road. The pool is unmistakably in front of you on the left (white bldg with large dark opaque windows), so turn left to park on either side of the street near the pool entrance. The pool is olympic size and well lit and in operation till 9 at night, but check the schedule (or call ahead), it's sometimes used for competitions, and some times are ladies only.
- Here is the schedule for summer 2009:
- Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. MIXED swimming
- Fridays

This is a really nice way to go diving in Abu Dhabi. The boat Empros was a liveaboard brought over from Egypt and in the last months of 2008 was operating with it's attentive and hospitable Egyptian crew. They charge 400 dirhams per person for two dives with tanks and weights only (more if you need to rent equipment) but this includes, get this, your own shared cabin (double) with bunk, shower, and toilet and TOWEL! They have their own dive sites which have a lot of fish e.g. barracuda on them. They provide breakfast and a great meal with shrimp which they serve on the boat ride home. It's very relaxing and well worth the money if you feel like a day out diving in Abu Dhabi, considering all the meals and amenities.Gulf Marine Sports

Where to stay in Dibba: The following have been serving divers in Dibba since 2006. Back then we stayed at the Seaside and got a nice, clean, spacious apt for 200 dirhams, fully equipped with kitchen and living room gear, 4 beds in two rooms. Late checkout for divers as well. These prices were "promotional" however, and by late 2007 the rate has doubled. The Al Raha and Sama were also recommended by Freestyle divers (2007 prices unknown). You can also get a room at Holiday Beach for around 500 dirhams (one bed and a couch in one room), and have their excellent restaurant cater your dinner on a balcony with a sea view.
- Seaside Furnished Apartments : 09 2447553/ 050 8172233 - 350 for 2-BR when we stayed here in Feb 2008, nicest of the lot, master bedroom with queen sized bed and bath, 2nd bath in hallway, well stocked kitchen with appliances, stereo system in living room. Just booked for August 2008 and the price of a 2br flat in the new bldg (Seaside 2) has gone up to 400. Seaside 1 (older but quite nice too) is 350. In September (Ramadhan) the price was back down to 300 for Seaside 2.
- Al Raha Furnished apartments : 09 2447717/09 2440001/050 4702552 - 250 for 2-BR when we stayed in Jan 2008, comfortable but only one bath in hallway, gas cooker improbably placed near floor, bring your own kettle
- Sama Furnished apartments : 09 2440221/ 050 3857972 - we've never stayed here
- Al Ruda 050-399-8164 (we saw this one on the road south from Dibba near the Pots Roundabout)
- Al Dhiyafa Serviced Apts (Purple sign out front says Furnished flats). 09-244-4848 and mobile 050-717-7099
On the road from Dibba to Freestyle and Maku Divers, further past the water pots roundabout and just before the blatantly non-green (in fact, orange, pink, and purple sculpted cinder-block, what an eyesore blocking the view of a once-pristine beach) tinkertoy ticky tacky JAL Hotel - there is Al Dhiyafa Furnished Flats. They used to, in return for uttering the magic words, "Dive Center," rent you newly built, comfortable, rooms with a/c and kitchen and in some cases small living rooms for prices between 100 (single room) to 150 (discounted price) and 200 for two bedroom furnished flats. Furnishings in one room are typically a double bed and in the other a pair of single beds. But they no longer take reservations, see below:Update on these places, Nov 23, 2007: Our dive buddies Nicky and Cal tried to book a room at the National (since closed) but were told they were taking no reservations. Nicky finally managed to contact the owner on his mobile and he agreed to hold a room for her on this date. When we arrived at the property at around 4 p.m. we found it locked and no one in the office. Nicky managed to raise the owner on his mobile and he said her room was actually at the Dhiyafa next door. So we went there, but there were no rooms and the man at the desk, simply a caretaker, of course had no record of any reservations. Nicky called the owner and had him talk to the man at the desk, but as the rooms were all occupied, there was nothing more to do, and she was sent on her way to fend for herself. Fortunately there were rooms at the Seaside. Cal had tried the hotels but all were fully booked. This is a popular coastline on weekends, and the small 'residences' are not risking vacancies from people not showing up to take their reservations, so be warned.
Where to stay in Khor Fakkan: The Youth Hostel has moved to center of town but the phone number is still 09-237-0886 as of November 2005. Haven't been there since then, but back then the phone would be answered by Rudy, who manages the place and keeps it immaculately clean. To find it orient yourself in Khor Fakkan town proper on its three gas stations. All are on your right if you're coming from 7 Seas or driving from the roundabout on the Corniche with the Pars Restaurant and heading toward the town center. The first station is an old ADNOC one, wth a red and blue sign, and here you bear left to the main street of town. You pass the post office and then the green Emirat station, both on your right. Go a couple of blocks up the main road till you can make a u-turn and the Youth Hostel is right there in a villa standing off to itself and prominently signed, on the side of the road opposite the gass stations, right after you've made the U-turn.
If you're coming from Fujairah, you'll see the red-colored Eppco station on your left (same side of the road as the others) and you'll come to a roundabout with the Toyota dealership where there is also a turn to the right, which you shouldn't take (but turns toward the ocean are rare in Khor Fakkan). Just ahead, keep an eye out for cars coming in off the u-turn mentioned above, and the Youth Hostel is on your right just past that spot. Drive through the gate in the wall and park in the sand lot convenient to the Hostel.

Captain Ahmed drops his anchor right on the coral at Martini Rock rather than use the mooring lines there. I finned around his anchor chain and watched it graze away swathes of white soft corals during a dive there in 2005. However there is a dive center in its place or in the vicinity of Holiday Beach Motel, Dibba, Eastcoast of the United Arab Emirates, and the old JAL monstrosity (now the hotel has another owner, used to be a pristine beach here, now concrete pastel colors block what was once a lovely view - no fault of the dive center, which was there before). Comments: Scuba 2000 is a pleasantly run facility on the beach at Badiya at the edge of the coastal mountains just north of Khor Fakkan. Badiya is site of the 'oldest mosque in the UAE' as it is signposted, and the turning for the dive center is just north from there (the turning is signposted, but drive into the souq to the t-junction where it is not signposted, and turn right, and you'll see it along the beach). The dive shop is clean and well equipped. There are two comfortable rooms with a/c, tv, and 2 queen beds each, 150 dirhams per night. The rooms face into the small outdoor compound where you can relax and bbq and drink from your cool box. The Pinnacles, one of the best dive spots on that coast, is a few minutes north by boat.

http://www.musandamdiving.comThe Charlotte Anne is a 200 ton Classic Sailing vessel doing scuba diving and sightseeing trips into the Musandam, (mostly east coast) since year 2000. "The ship is a classic schooner, with 10 sails and a huge engine room with generators, air comprsssors etc, to provide the customer with the very best in Liveaboard cruising" (according to Christopher Hurndall who has since sold the business). For more information you can try calling +971-4-222-9007 in Dubai. When you call that number, the secretary will give you the mobile number of Vladimir +971-50-387-2090 and tell you that he is the only one who knows about making actual bookings. The secretary also told me she wasn't sure if anyone was checking seatrips@emirates.net.ae which is the email addy on the website at http://www.charlotteannecharters.com. There is also a fax number there, +971-9-222-3508. This is what I was able to find out on Jan 8, 2008.

According to Chris, Nomad is "an eco adventure facilty in Dibah Oman and offers diverse activities, among them diving ... I also run a guesthouse in Dibah and offer packages with meals and dives" Nomad is a Padi resort facility, offering all padi courses, the only air filling station in Dibah, Oman, and full gear rental. The Mauritius style cooking at the Nomad Guest House and clean and pleasantly furnished accommodations deserve a few Michelin stars, great family-run place, great atmosphere. In July 2009 it cost 600 dirhams for a day's diving, including two tanks and boat ride at least to Lima Rock or beyond, plus lunch and soft beverages on the boat, bbq dinner, a bed in an air-conditioned room for 2 to 4 at the hostel, and continental breakfast. A second day of diving is an additional 300 if you have your own reg and bcd etc (but includes tanks and weights).
Recommendation: http://vancesdiveblogs.blogspot.com/2009/04/april-17-2009-musandam-lima-rock-and.htmlIn early 2002 the Omanis decreed that henceforth all boats transporting divers north from Dibba UAE into Musandam, Oman would be Omani registered. Sahel Leema Trading have a number of Omani registered boats, very suitable for diving, with shade, each with a helmsman. Trips can be booked through 7 Seas Divers or you can contact the company for charter.

Kathleen used these people in Nov 2003 and sends this report:
I booked my trip with Khasab Travel and Tours and they arranged everything for us. You cannot take tanks over the Khasab border. We had a great Dive guide (very entertaining), Mohammed, Omani! ... saw turtles, lots of reef fish, rays. And going through fjiords, we encountered dolphins! The dhow was going back and forth so the dolphins can bow-ride! It was a great experience. Stayed at the ESRA holiday flats, accommodates 3 per room, there are 8 rooms.

Diving at the Damaniyite Islands, a game preserve and until recently off-limits to dive operations. In the opinion of this webmaster, the diving here is comparable to Thailand and is the best you'll find in this area.
