The Firewall in the Mind (Slide 6) Way back when: me, before ESL

First, let me tell you a little bit about myself and how I happened to get into the computer aspect of my profession over 20 years ago.

My first contact with the world of ESL was through my uncle, who was living what seemed to me to be an interesting life in Saudi Arabia at a time when I was an impressionable kid. When my uncle moved to Morocco in the early '70s he invited my brother and I to visit him and to entice us, offered to subsidize our travels to the tune of a thousand dollars each, big money back in those days. I eagerly took him up on it and began a journey which took me through Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for almost two years, and which has after some time and many perturbations brought me here. My brother on the other hand did the calculations in his head, turned down the thousand dollars and the opportunity, and is today a millionaire in Texas, which he hardly ever leaves except to fly first class to other cities in North America.
