Hash House Harriers in Abu
Dhabi
Wasps, Island, and Mainland Contacts
The 3 hashes in Abu Dhabi:
Ode to departed hashers: Farewell Barrie, and
Paula and Harry, and best of luck wherever you're stuck!!
- Wasps Hash: a small (15-25) friendly group. Runs are in town at
the usual sites (you learn those quick enough).
Until you get your own chariot, you can usually get a cab to the runs. A run is
10 dhms, 15 if you're eating. After the jog, the group retires to someone's
house or another venue for a meal, byob unless it's at a club. If you're new in
town and don't have your special medicaments permit, people share. This is a
small, informal, and relaxed HHH. There is a toast to the HHH after each run,
but that's the extent of the ceremony. This here's the website, and it has a
netword for easy memorization, http://www.netword.com/*auh3
- The Mainland Hash is usually off island and you need a car or
a lift and around 45 min to reach the usual sites. This HHH has the reputation
of making participants sit on a block of ice (occasionally, to be fair). Even
if they do bring out the ice, and if you're just visiting, and unless you're a
complete arse and asking for it, you will likely be spared. This hash provides
food and beverage in return for a contribution, and entertains participants via
a Religious Advisor (RA) hence the ice. Web site,

- The Island Hash is sometimes accessible by cab. It charges 30
dhms for run, meal and unlimited supply of the beverages you would expect, 25
dhms for members (250 dirhams if paying quarterly), and 10 dhms for kiddiwinks
(I believe there's been a price increase, but this is the ballpark figure). You
don't have to join to attend. There's a Hash Words, an on-on at someone's house
if not at the run site itself, and entertainment is provided by a Religious
Advisor in the middle of a circle of sweaty bodies. Newcomers get a down down
and a song, but hashits, if given at all, are almost always to someone well
known within the group. NOTE
avoid: yellow t-shirts, new
shoes. Website: http://www.geocities.com/auh4
