The Firewall in the Mind (Slide 10) Way back when: the language lab

The language lab itself was part of the problem. A lot was invested in language labs with disappointing results, and people are still making faulty analogies between audio language labs and computer labs. The two are night and day. A computer lab is full of equipment that students can relate to in many aspects of their real lives. Language labs on the other hand were designed for little purpose but to mechanize the audiolingual method.
